About Ramona:

High-throughput optical microscopy is transforming the science of modern biology — from genetics to drug discovery to synthetic biology. It is rapidly improving efficiency and opening up new possibilities across a wide range of applications.

But scientists today are fundamentally constrained by the limited perspective of traditional microscopes. As field-of-view increases, resolution decreases. Yet modern biology requires an ability to capture precise data across larger areas and at multiple points in time to understand dynamic systems and reduce costs by accelerating tedious workflows.

At Ramona, we've reimagined microscopy for the modern researcher. Our Multi-Camera Array Microscope (MCAM™) is the first of its kind to offer video-speed capture of cellular detail across an entire well plate. By equipping scientists with unprecedented speed, precision, and insight, we’re on a mission to advance human health and insight through computational microscopy.

Our foundation is built upon five guiding principles:

  • We empower exploration by embracing challenges and nurturing curiosity.
  • We pursue understanding to deliver solutions that are transformative and elegantly simple.
  • We drive innovation, seeking novel approaches to anticipate the challenges of cutting-edge research.
  • We trust in accountability, maintaining transparency and ownership in all we do.
  • We thrive on collaboration, valuing diverse perspectives to achieve shared goals.

Our startup environment is fast-paced and constantly evolving. Success here is driven by a willingness to embrace new challenges and make a tangible impact on our overall success. Our team members thrive on the edge of innovation, wearing multiple hats and coming up with creative solutions to drive growth. For those who excel in dynamic, ever-changing environments and are ready to contribute wherever needed, Ramona offers numerous opportunities for professional growth. However, if you prefer a more structured or predictable work environment, Ramona's fast-paced environment might not be the best fit. We’re looking for team members who are eager to push boundaries and shape the future of microscopy and scientific research.

The Role:

We are seeking an experienced Field Application Scientist (FAS) with a strong background in customer-facing scientific support, pre-sales engagement, and live product demonstrations. This role is critical to driving commercial success by supporting sales cycles, delivering compelling technical demos, and ensuring customers can clearly connect Ramona’s technology to their experimental workflows.

This position sits at the intersection of sales, customer success, and product, and is best suited for someone who has previously supported commercial scientific instruments and is comfortable representing the company externally at customer sites, conferences, and industry events.

You will serve as a technical authority for the MCAM™, partnering closely with Sales to support evaluations, demos, pilots, and post-sale adoption. You will also act as the voice of the customer internally, translating real-world usage into actionable product and workflow improvements.

This is an in-person role. Candidates based in or willing to relocate to the Triangle, NC area are preferred.

Responsibilities:

Pre-Sales & Commercial Support (Primary Focus)

  • Act as the technical lead in pre-sales engagements, including live demos, evaluations, and proof-of-concept experiments with prospective customers.
  • Partner closely with Sales to support the full commercial cycle, from first technical call through close and post-sale handoff.
  • Deliver high-impact scientific demonstrations at customer sites, conferences, trade shows, workshops, and virtual events.
  • Confidently present Ramona’s technology to a range of audiences, including bench scientists, core facility directors, and scientific leadership.

System Installations, Training & Demos

  • Lead on-site system installations and provide 1–2 days of structured customer training, ensuring users are confident operating the MCAM independently.
  • Prepare and execute application-specific demo workflows tailored to customer biology and throughput needs.

Customer Success & Technical Support

  • Serve as a frontline technical resource for customers, troubleshooting experimental design, imaging parameters, and workflow challenges.
  • Develop trusted relationships with users by deeply understanding their biology and experimental goals.

Workflow Development & Internal Feedback

  • Collaborate with Engineering and Product teams to translate customer feedback into workflow optimizations, feature requests, and best practices.
  • Contribute to internally and externally facing application notes, protocols, and training materials.

Marketing & Scientific Enablement

  • Support Marketing by ensuring scientific accuracy and relevance of application content, presentations, and collateral.
  • Contribute to conference planning by advising on demos, sample prep, and scientific messaging.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Direct experience as a Field Application Scientist, Applications Scientist, or similar customer-facing role supporting commercial scientific instruments.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting pre-sales activities, including demos, evaluations, and customer trials.
  • Comfort representing a company at conferences, trade shows, and customer meetings.
  • Masters degree in biological sciences, or biomedical engineering with 3+ years of experience in a similar role.
    • PhD in Biological Sciences,  Biomedical Engineering or similar is an asset but not required.
  • Familiarity with cancer models and cell culture techniques is a must.
  • Proficiency in wet laboratory skills.
  • Proficiency in image analysis software such as  ImageJ, Imaris, Arivis, or Aivia.
  • Highly adaptable and able to support users in maximizing the impact of our technology on their science.
  • Comfortable with sample preparation and imaging optimization as it pertains to a variety of microscopy imaging setups.
  • Exhibits strong organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proactive, with a keen interest in learning about aspects of microscopy and its application to biology workflows.
  • Has a positive attitude and thrives in a collaborative startup environment.
  • Comfortable working with hands and tools; taking things apart to learn how they work and putting them back together. You may be asked to perform small repairs at the end user site!
  • Comfortable with data analysis tools commonly used in microscopy including Excel, GraphPad, Prism, Python, Matlab.

Why Ramona?

  • Competitive salary and benefits, including equity options.
  • Opportunity to work in a fast-paced, innovative environment.
