The Role:

We are looking for a cloud software engineer to help us expand our computational microscopy platform into the cloud  to ensure the best experience for our users. They are scientists eager to use our tools to explore and view their data in varied formats across various platforms from local, to the web. You will help build reliable backend cloud infrastructure that will make you the 10x developer our team needs to move our product forward. Your peers at the company will rely on your work to scale data storage and analysis solutions both existing and novel.

Our team is passionate about building solutions that empower groundbreaking research and discovery. We are looking for a skilled cloud software engineer to help design and implement our storage format  and lay the groundwork for our cloud infrastructure.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with a cross-disciplinary team to design a scalable, efficient, and reliable storage format tailored to computational microscopy data.
  • Benchmark and optimize software performance on cutting-edge cloud platforms.
  • Develop and maintain the foundational components of our cloud infrastructure for data management and analysis.
  • Document technical designs, workflows, and processes for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Evaluate and integrate emerging technologies to ensure scalability, reliability, and cost-efficiency of our solutions.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering  or a related field. Equivalent experience is also welcomed.
  • Strong proficiency in Python as well as other languages, with a strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and performance optimization.
  • Hands-on experience with designing and implementing data storage formats, preferably for scientific or high-performance computing applications.
  • Experience with benchmarking and optimizing software for modern hardware architectures (e.g., GPUs, multi-core CPUs, or specialized accelerators).
  • Knowledge of data serialization formats (e.g., HDF5, JSON, TIFF, PNG, or others) and database systems (SQL and NoSQL).
  • Familiarity with cloud technologies and distributed computing frameworks (e.g., AWS, GCP, or Azure).
  • Strong problem-solving skills, scientific curiosity, and attention to detail.
  • A commitment to open communication, teamwork, and scientific integrity.
  • Knowledge of image compression and video compression is a bonus.
